Damaraland is a fascinating area of savannah, gravel plains and mountain wilderness. This rocky desert landscape is characterised by unique flat topped mountains and granite dome shaped hills. The Twyfelfontien area is renowned for some of the best examples of Bushman rock paintings and engravings in Southern Africa and has been declared a World Heritage Site. Nearby, there are numerous interesting geographical features such as the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain and Petrified Forest. Wildlife includes the rare desert adapted elephant and Black Rhino and giraffe, springbok, zebra, oryx and ostrich can also be seen.
