great location for:

Located at the end of the Great Rift Valley, the South Luangwa National Park covers an area of over 9000 square km. Game concentrates around the Luangwa River and its oxbow lagoons and it is said there are up to 50 hippo per km and an equally high number of crocodile. South Luangwa is home to herds of elephant and buffalo, often several hundred strong, as well as rarer species such as Thornicroft’s Giraffe, African Wild Dog and Cookeson’s Wildebeest. Game drives in open 4WD’s can be undertaken day or night with walking safaris being a particularly popular option. November sees the start of the rainy season but some lodges in the South Luangwa remain open offering excellent ‘green’ season boat safaris. This time of year is particularly good for bird watching.
