great location for:

Ille Sainte Marie is a narrow tropical island off the east coast of Madagascar. 60 km long and 5 km wide, the island is just a short flight from ‘Tana and makes an easy extension to any itinerary. Laidback and sleepy, with just a few hotels, the island has many tiny villages and sandy bays to discover. An island of myth and legend, it’s safe and secluded bays were perfect hideouts for pirates during the 17th and 18th centuries; it is even possible to visit the cemetery where many are buried. From July to September, humpback whales breed and calve in the calm waters making it the country’s premier whale watching destination. First class diving, fishing and a multitude of orchids, including the rare Queen of Madagascar, add to the appeal of this unspoilt paradise.
